According to Microsoft’s announcement, a popular shooter Doom Eternal will be included in the Xbox Game Pass service starting October 1. The game will also enter the PC version of the service no later than the end of 2020.
Previously, Microsoft, the Xbox company owner, acquired the ZeniMax Media publishing house . It now has the rights to Bethesda Softworks and id Software games, including future ones such as The Elder Scrolls 6. This also guarantees their release as part of Game Pass, and the coming to the service of one particular id Software work – Doom Eternal – is already confirmed.
Information about the game was published in a rather unusual manner: a screenshot of a message from a fictional employee named “Melissa McGeympass” was posted on Xbox Game Pass Twitter. There is no direct reference to Doom in it, however, some especially attentive users put together the first letters of the sentences to form an instruction to “look below”, while others thought of changing the screenshot’s contrast – in the end, the inscription “The executioner is approaching” appeared. This is an obvious reference to Doom Slayer, the main protagonist of Doom and Doom Eternal.
Later, a more formal statement confirmed the guesses and set a release date to be October, 1 for Xbox and a little later in 2020 for PC.
