Activision has officially announced “Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War” to be the name of the new Call of Duty (CoD) game. The action will develop in the XX century, during the Cold War – the famous geopolitical clash between the West (USA) and the USSR.
The teaser released by Activision lacks gameplay demonstration, the video focuses on the product’s story instead and features original Cold War-era videos. In due time, the clip shows an interview with a real KGB deserter, Yuri Bezmenov, (who fled to Canada in the early 70s) naming the stages of destruction of the US political power in the world. The trailer can be viewed below.
Based on the text accompanying the trailer, a Soviet spy called “Perseus” will be an important character in the game; his goal is “to sabotage the activities of the United States to ensure the dominance of the USSR in the arms race.” In the real world, “Perseus” is mentioned at least once in CIA articles, according to which he was involved in the theft of secret US nuclear technologies from Project Manhattan in Los Alamos, however, this incident happened a bit earlier, during World War II.

Activision has only begun teasing a new CoD game not so long ago while claiming the new title to be published in 2020. In early August, the company started sending out multimedia projectors playing the weird slideshows that led the audience to an augmented reality game, which, in turn, eventually revealed a strange website that broadcasts the 1960s news clips.
The news from the videos only suggested a Cold War setting, but the teaser, released on YouTube today, has finally verified the fan theories.
Activision has also added the teasers of “Black Ops Cold War” to its previous mega-hit “CoD: Warzone”. The company has stated that the famous Warzone mode is also to be included in the “Cold War”. Also, Warzone’s main map, Verdansk, is mentioned in the trailer’s description on YouTube.
The game is developed by Treyarch and Raven studios. The date of its official presentation is August 26.
