Last weekend, IGN interviewed director Johannes Roberts, who is currently working on a new Resident Evil film, which will serve as a complete reboot of the acclaimed franchise. In an interview, Roberts revealed several interesting details about the upcoming movie, including its exact title, which hasn’t been released until now.
According to the director, “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” (that is the new picture’s title) is a completely new entry in the franchise and has zero plot connections with the previous series. Moreover, the new film will be much closer to the original video games, namely Resident Evil 1 and 2, than its predecessors.
Events will take place in two main locations – Spencer Mansion and a police station from RE and RE 2, respectively. Roberts also noted that the creators used this to implement the contrast into the narrative – the scenes in the mansion will evoke an atmosphere of horror and anxiety, while the police station will be a center of action and adrenaline in the picture.
As a bonus, Johannes Roberts stated Resident Evil 2 Remake as his main inspiration when working on the movie.
We remind you that the film will reach the silver screens in September this year. Capcom will also release a new game in the franchise on May 7 called Resident Evil Village.
